Statements in the House

Diversity and Inclusion October 6th, 2022

Mr. Speaker, these days, we are more aware of the conditions facing Black communities in Canada. That is why the Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion launched a call for proposals this week for organizations to implement the Black-led philanthropic endowment fund announced by our government.

Can the minister tell the House how this fund will support Black communities?

Emilia De Iacovo September 27th, 2022

Mr. Speaker, I would like to recognize Emilia De Iacovo's 20 years of service to several MPs in the House of Commons of Canada.

Emilia worked for the hon. André Ouellet and the hon. Pierre Pettigrew. At the provincial level, she worked for ministers Lise Thériault, Yolande James, Monique Jérôme‑Forget and the hon. Clément Gignac.

I have had the privilege of working with Emilia since 2007. She is an expert in immigration and in electoral campaigning. She has an excellent relationship with seniors' clubs. She greets citizens in French, English, and Italian, and even speaks a little Arabic and Creole.

Madam Speaker, yesterday, on Father's Day, the fourth edition of the “eminent men in Bourassa” ceremony was held to recognize five men who have made an outstanding contribution to the community.

Haitian Flag May 18th, 2022

Mr. Speaker, jodia se fête drapeau haïtien.

Today it is my privilege to draw the Canadian House of Commons' attention to the 219th anniversary of the creation of the Haitian flag.

The blue and red flag represents the abolition of slavery in the colonies and the proclamation of liberty and equality for all. The bravery of the country's heroines, heroes and noble people resulted in one of the greatest victories in human history, the Haitian revolution of 1804.

As we celebrate the achievements of Haitians around the world, I sincerely hope that Haitians will draw on their great history to at last bring democracy to the nation that was once known as the pearl of the Antilles.

I wish them a happy flag day. Avèw Map Mache!

Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present, in both official languages, the fourth report of the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs entitled “Main Estimates 2022-23: Votes 1 and 5 under department of Veterans Affairs, Vote 1 under Veterans Review and Appeal Board”.

Mother's Day May 9th, 2022

Mr. Speaker, on the occasion of Mother's Day, I want to wish all the best to all women.

In particular, I want to acknowledge the resilience of seniors in Bourassa, who are paying a heavy price because of the COVID‑19 pandemic. Health-wise, seniors are suffering the most due to isolation from their loved ones.

I am pleased to say that my team and I held Mother's Day celebrations in person for the first time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizers and the members of the seniors' clubs and seniors' residences, as well as the organizations working in my riding to bring our seniors out of isolation and contribute to their well-being.

I thank them, and I want to send Mother's Day wishes to the mothers in the diverse communities that shape our beautiful country.

Innovation, Science and Industry May 3rd, 2022

Mr. Speaker, we on this side of the House know that vaccines save lives.

That is why we made an announcement with Moderna last week regarding plans to build a plant in Montreal capable of producing up to 100 million vaccines. This is very promising for our biomanufacturing.

Could the Minister of Innovation comment on the importance of this partnership to the health sector and the Canadian economy?
