Statements in the House

Persons with Disabilities December 16th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Canadian dental care plan is already saving Canadians an average of more than $730 per year. This will help almost 200,000 persons living with disabilities access dental care. We know this is making a huge difference in the lives of people on the ground. We also know dental care is health care, and we will continue to make sure Canadians are getting the support that they need.

Finance December 12th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I always find it a bit rich when Conservatives talk about feminism, when their own leader will use hashtags on his YouTube videos to attract men who hate women. It is anything but feminist when they bring forward backdoor legislation to ban abortion in this country or when they all vote against increased funding to combat gender-based violence or to support survivors. Their leader does not care about women or equality; he only cares about himself. Shame on them.

Taxation December 9th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, it is indeed ironic that the Conservative leader, who loves to talk about cutting taxes, was quick to vote against the very tax cut that would put real money back in the pockets of Canadians. We have already cut taxes for the middle class and small businesses. Now, with this GST cut, we are giving even more support for families. It is too bad that the Conservatives are only allowed to serve the needs of their leader rather than their own constituents.

Our government will continue to focus on what matters, and that is delivering for Canadians.

Persons with Disabilities December 6th, 2024

Madam Speaker, for the first time in Canada, there is a benefit designed specifically to help persons with disabilities, and of course it is going to help women with disabilities as well. This is a historic step that we have put forward to address the long-standing poverty among working-age persons with disabilities. Like with other progressive programs, we are going to make sure we continue to expand it to make sure all working-age Canadians with disabilities are supported, particularly some of the most vulnerable women.

Government Business No. 43—Proceedings on Bill C‑78 November 27th, 2024

Madam Speaker, I move:

That the House do now adjourn.

Persons with Disabilities November 25th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, no other government has done more to support seniors and persons with disabilities than this Liberal government, whether it is through a dental care program that is going to help nine million Canadians, or the Canada disability benefit or by increasing seniors' pensions. The GST-HST tax break is yet another measure to support Canadian families. Our working Canadians rebate is going to support more than 18 million working Canadians who get that $250 cheque in April. This is good news. Let us get it done.

The Economy November 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, we will not take any lessons from the Conservatives on how to deliver for Canadians. While they keep their hidden agenda, we know exactly what they would do. They would cut dental care for nine million Canadians. They would end $10-a-day child care. They would cancel the national school food program.

Conservatives will not tell us their plan because they do not want Canadians to know, just like their leader will not get the security clearance that he needs to protect Canadians. Shame on them. What are they hiding?

Public Safety November 4th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, we strongly condemn acts of violence and hate that took place outside Hindu Sabha Mandir and Sri Guru Singh Sabha gurdwara. These acts need to stop. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their places of worship. I have spoken to Chief Nishan of the Peel Regional Police and have full confidence in our local authorities to investigate and to de-escalate.

As Canadians, we must stand united against hate and against all those who try to destabilize peace and unity between our communities.

Diversity and Inclusion October 29th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, for the last few years, this government has been proud to support the Toronto Caribbean festival. It brings hundreds of thousands of people from around the world to the city of Toronto. We are going to continue to work with the organization to support the work it does in celebrating the Caribbean festival in this country.

Democratic Institutions October 25th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the involvement of Indian government agents in targeting Canadians, particularly Sikh communities, is a grave violation of Canadian sovereignty. Foreign interference costs lives, and Canadians expect party leaders to be informed and seek the truth on matters as important as their safety and national security. It is absolutely shameful that the Conservative Party leader is the only party leader in the House who is refusing to get his security clearance, closing his eyes to foreign interference breaches within his own party.

What is he hiding? Who is he trying to protect? Why does he put his own political interests above the safety of Canadians?
