Madam Speaker, imputing someone's motive is when we assume we know the intentions of people we do not know. I just wanted to know if that is allowed here in the House, because it was prohibited in other assemblies I have been part of as an activist.

I would like to know whether we have the right to impute motives. Imputing motives is a fallacy in which one presumes to know the intentions of others without knowing them.

Madam Speaker, I would like to know whether it is possible and permissible for members to impute motives when we rise in the House. The official opposition's motive was imputed, and I would just like to know whether we have the right to do that in the House.

Mr. Speaker, the philosopher Schopenhauer often said that life is a pendulum that constantly swings back and forth between pain and boredom. Here on this side of the House, we are getting pretty bored, while the other side of the House is creating a lot of pain with these obstacles and the Liberals' self-sabotage of their own legislative agenda.

Could my esteemed colleague explain to the House why he thinks the government is sabotaging itself by refusing to hand over the documents that the House is demanding?

Mr. Speaker, I would like to ask my hon. colleague what he thinks is behind the federal government's inaction in this matter. More broadly, there is something that struck me in his presentation, and that was the federal government's insistence on meddling in the provinces' jurisdictions while neglecting its own responsibilities.

Generally speaking, what does he think is behind the federal government's attitude in this regard?

Mr. Speaker, I want to use my first statement in the House to thank the voters of LaSalle—Émard—Verdun for placing their trust in me on September 16. I made only one promise, and that was to give my all to prove myself worthy of that trust.

I thank my leader, the member for Beloeil—Chambly, for his unwavering support throughout the campaign. I would also like to thank Mr. Duceppe and Mr. St‑Pierre Plamondon for their speeches at our big rally.

My heartfelt thanks go to all the volunteers who believed in the Bloc Québécois. Special thanks go to my campaign manager, Stevens Héroux, and the members of the election committee for this victory.

Thanks to all of them, southwest Montreal now has a member on the ground who is here to serve the people. Thanks to them, I will be working on local priorities like housing, homelessness, the cost of living and the fight against climate change. Thanks to them, I will continue to work toward the only real power: Quebec independence.

Mr. Speaker, as this is my first opportunity to speak, I would like to thank the people of LaSalle—Émard—Verdun for placing their trust in me. I will do everything I can to be worthy of it.

Today, I am proud to back the Bloc Québécois's ultimatum on behalf of seniors. The Liberals have two options: they can increase old age security for those aged 74 and under, or they can call an election right now. I would remind them that it did not go so well for them last time.

Will the government choose seniors or will it choose its demise?
