Mr. Speaker, I commend the work of the filmmakers in the coalition and of all those in Quebec who continually stand up to ask institutions to give them adequate support.

Our government is listening. We have proven that with budget after budget since 2015 by bringing in new supports, including support for Telefilm Canada. We support the NFB and we have added money to the Canada Media Fund. All of this is to ensure that there is diversity in terms of content and that filmmakers are able to bring their talent to our screens and promote Quebec and Canada around the world.

We will continue to be there for our culture industry.

Mr. Speaker, we have always supported the NFB over the years because we know how important it is to nurture the next generation of Quebec and Canadian filmmakers.

As a matter of fact, all the names my colleague mentioned highlight the level of talent, diversity and quality we have here in Quebec and Canada. We will continue to support them. That is why we have increased virtually all our cultural budgets. We know how important that is.

We do it because we believe in our talent, and we believe in the importance of culture. We are going to keep doing it.

Mr. Speaker, I am well aware that the NFB is currently looking at its program that supports independent filmmakers.

Its mandate is clear: to support a diversity of independent filmmakers, including French-language filmmakers. I will ensure that it continues to fulfill its mandate.

I invite the filmmakers to share their concerns with NFB management, which is independent and will make decisions accordingly.

Mr. Speaker, I would be pleased to work on this with all of my colleagues who care about culture and the arts.

That is why our government has invested more money than ever before in arts and culture. We understand how important this is in all communities across the country. We added $31 million to the Canada music fund. We put in an additional $32 million for festivals. We have added money for audiovisual production.

We will always be there, unlike the Conservatives, who made cuts to the arts across the country when they were in power, and who are still opposed to tech giants paying their fair share.

[Climate Change, June 6th, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. I certainly share his desire to see Canada do more to reduce the effect of greenhouse gases on global warming.

That is why we are the only G20 country to have eliminated subsidies for oil and gas companies, which we did two years ahead of schedule. This week, we also announced a $530‑million fund with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to work with our communities across the country to improve resilience to climate change. We know that we need to do more, and we will do so.

Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question, since it gives me an opportunity to talk about budget 2024, in which we reinvested $31 million in festivals. The Fringe Festival should also benefit from that.

We know how important culture is to all communities across Canada, especially after the pandemic. Festivals are truly fantastic occasions for communities to come together to share cultural events that bring people closer and tell Canadian stories.

Unfortunately, the Conservatives will vote against that in budget 2024, just as they will vote against all other support for the cultural community across the country.

[Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1, May 10th, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, an agreement could not be reached under the provisions of Standing Order 78(1) or 78(2) with respect to the second reading stage of Bill C‑69, an act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 16, 2024.

Under the provisions of Standing Order 78(3), I give notice that a minister of the Crown will propose at the next sitting a motion to allot a specific number of days or hours for the consideration and disposal of proceedings at the said stage.

Mr. Speaker, I do not understand why my Bloc Québécois colleague is trying to pick a fight about something that almost every party in the House, except the Conservatives, agrees on. Everyone here, except the Conservatives, stands up for a strong and financially healthy Radio‑Canada. Everyone stands up for a strong and financially healthy CBC across the country.

We will keep working on this file while the Conservatives promise to destroy our public broadcaster and prevent Canadians from having access to information and quality Canadian content. It is disgusting.
