Mr. Speaker, my colleague said that he was on the committee, and the Canadian government claims it wants to support Armenian democracy. However, the current situation is very worrying, as the current Armenian government has also lost all credit with the public. It lost in 2020 and has done virtually nothing since then. I would like my colleague to explain this unpleasant situation as far as Armenia is concerned.
Affordable Housing and Groceries Act September 25th, 2023
Mr. Speaker, according to the Société immobilière du Québec, 40% of Quebec households are renters, yet only 14% of the housing expected to be built by 2030 will be rental housing. If we do not reverse the trend, it will be a national tragedy. We would need to triple the proposed amount of new rental housing to keep the housing crisis from getting worse.
Is it going to take more than 25 years to resolve the situation?
Strengthening the Port System and Railway Safety in Canada Act September 21st, 2023
Mr. Speaker, I would like to talk a bit about history. In 1913, the National Transcontinental Railway was completed a few kilometres from Senneterre. Today, we are talking about rail safety, tracks that are too old throughout my riding and Quebec, safety concerns with the transportation of goods, gaps and red tape.

Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for the passion and exuberance he displayed during his speech. I agree with him completely. The climate events we are experiencing, such as flooding, forest fires and various changes, are significant.
What exactly are oil and gas regulations?
Can my colleague clarify what his government plans to do about oil and gas and the environment?

Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech on Bill C‑49.
Staying on the topic of forest fires, I would like to point out that the northern area of my riding, Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou, lost 3.6 million hectares to the fires. Until now, the impact of climate change has been constant. The forest fires caused us tremendous economic, social and workforce losses. For an idea of the scope of the fires and the losses they caused us, members should keep in mind that my riding is three times the size of France.
Can my colleague tell us whether this bill will reduce the impact of greenhouse gases on the environment or reduce greenhouse gases from oil and gas?
Wildfires September 18th, 2023
Mr. Speaker, this was a climate change summer in Quebec. For some, it was rain; for others it was tornado alerts; but for all of us, the worst part was fire.
Fire darkened our skies and polluted our air. Fire burned the forests in my region and threatened our municipalities. Fire forced families to flee with just the bare essentials in their car and no idea what was in store for them.
On behalf of the Bloc Québécois, I would like to thank all those who fought the fires in Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou and elsewhere in Quebec. I salute the work of the mayors, law enforcement agencies and communities that pulled out all the stops to protect our people. In my region and neighbouring ones, people were ready, willing and able to help those who were displaced. I would also remind the federal government that there are still desperate needs.
The Bloc Québécois will continue to stand by the victims, the workers and the forestry and seasonal industries that need government support now more than ever.
Forest Fires June 20th, 2023
Mr. Speaker, wildfires continue to threaten my riding of Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou. The last evacuees are returning home, but we are certainly not celebrating yet, because they may have to evacuate again if the current dry weather conditions continue.
I want to thank all the firefighters who have come from abroad and from other provinces, as well as the military, for being there to help us fight these fires. I also want to thank everyone directly or indirectly involved in the evacuation and reintegration process.
A big thank you to the mayors of the cities who took in evacuees, namely Chibougamau, La Sarre, Val-d'Or, Senneterre, Quebec City, Roberval and Chicoutimi. Many thanks to Chantiers Chibougamau and Barrette-Chapais, who dug trenches to stop the threatening fires.
Finally, a special thank you to the mayors of the communities in my riding that were evacuated. They have acted quickly and with remarkable professionalism. The Bloc Québécois is with them in this critical situation. I thank them.
Disaster Assistance June 19th, 2023
Mr. Speaker, the Bloc Québécois continues to monitor the forest fires near Lebel-sur-Quévillon and elsewhere in Quebec. We stand with everyone affected.
The fire in my region is growing. The forecast is for 30 degrees Celsius and higher this week, without any rain until Sunday. People are worried. Our businesses are also worried. They are worried that nothing has been put in place to cover their losses. On Monday, the government committed to doing more to support the communities affected. What does the government plan to do for the regions affected in Quebec, including Abitibi—Témiscamingue and Nord-du-Québec?

I would like my colleague to say a few words about businesses, indigenous communities and the support offered by the government. What needs to be done so that more entrepreneurs, especially in the forestry industry, get the support they need?

It is true that we often collaborate. It is important to say that we are talking about this because our colleagues and our leader support us. I also have to say that the Deputy Prime Minister has reached out to me. The government is supporting us too, and I am grateful for that support. It is important to say these things, but we have to take action. I cannot say it enough: What we are going through right now with these fires is a huge deal.
