[Post-Secondary Education, October 3rd, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for Vancouver Quadra for her question, and I thank the Conservative members in the House for congratulating us for all the work we are doing to make life easier for students. Whether it is taking off federal interest on student loans or doubling those student loans, we are making sure that apprentices are trained from coast to coast to coast. We have increased student loans. We have taken off the federal student debt. Why did we do that? It is because we are there to support students every step of the way.

[Official Languages, September 26th, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, Canada is a bilingual country and Canadians expect their leaders to be able to express themselves in both official languages.

It is worth highlighting that the Governor General was unable to learn French when she was young because of the discriminatory policies that existed in Canada at the time. We expect her to continue learning French, as linguistic duality is at the heart of our identity as Canadians.

We are proud of our bilingualism here in Canada.

Mr. Speaker, our government remains firmly committed to protecting the French language here in Canada.

It is important to note that Her Excellency the Governor General did not have the opportunity to learn French when she was young because of discrimination. She is the first indigenous woman to hold the position. She speaks one of our indigenous languages, which we are very proud of.

We expect the Governor General to continue her studies in French. Linguistic duality is at the heart of our identity as Canadians.

[Disaster Assistance, September 19th, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, I had the opportunity as a kid to go to Jasper with my grandparents and parents. This July, I visited Jasper and witnessed the devastation first-hand. I want to thank, from the bottom of my heart, all the first responders who made sure that the destruction was not even worse.

We have a historic opportunity to help Jasperites recover and rebuild faster. We have an act to amend the Canada National Parks Act, which will put the powers the mayor needs in his hands. I urge every single party in the House to vote this motion in.

[Employment, June 18th, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, when we came to power, we made significant investments in training several million workers from coast to coast to coast. The additional investment in question was not renewed in the 2024 budget because it was a temporary measure.

We are here to work with the provinces. We are going to do that. We are going to continue to train nearly one million people a year. That is what we are doing. It is a shared jurisdiction. We are here for Canadian workers from coast to coast to coast.

[Employment Insurance, June 10th, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, my colleague criticizes me a lot on this issue. Let me assure the House that we have already made changes to the EI system. We extended sickness benefits to 26 weeks. We extended the additional support for seasonal workers by five weeks until October 2024. The member and I have had a conversation about this. We will sit down together again.

As the Deputy Prime Minister said, interest rates are falling here in Canada, and we will be there for unemployed workers from coast to coast to coast.

[Ethics, June 6th, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, I am all too happy to set the record straight. I have had no role in the company since being elected in 2021. Regarding the day in question, I have shared my phone records with the committee and with the commissioner, which confirm that I am not the person in the story.

I have said it and the companies have said it, and now I have proven it: I was not involved. Let us get back to working for Canadians and focusing on the real issues.

[Taxation, June 3rd, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, here are the facts: Albertans get the most back from the Canada carbon rebate, and there is a rural top-up that is going to double thanks to our budget. When we had a minor increase in the price on pollution this year, guess who increased the price of fuel by 13¢? It was the premier of the Province of Alberta, Danielle Smith. Guess what she did? She offered no rebate and zero dollars back.

The Canada carbon rebate puts more money in the pockets of Albertans, while Danielle Smith and the Conservatives do absolutely nothing.

[Official Languages, June 3rd, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, as the member opposite knows full well, with the modernization of the Official Languages Act, our government has made it abundantly clear that French is declining here in Canada.

I come from Alberta. I studied in French at Campus Saint-Jean. Thanks to investments by the Government of Alberta, and thanks to official bilingualism across the country, I was able to study in the language of my choice, the language of Molière, in the right way.

We are going to protect official language minority communities in every province and in every corner of the country, because French and English matter. Under the act, Quebec is a unilingual francophone nation.

Our government believes in equipping women for success. That is why we are training women in skilled trades. That is why contraceptives will be free under our pharmacare plan. That is why we will defend a woman's right to choose.

We support women every step of the way. What are the Conservatives doing to support women? They vote no.
